This web page was produced as an assignment for Genetics 677, an undergraduate course at UW-Madison.
Homo sapiens COL1A1 mRNA was aligned with homologous Mus musculus mRNA using BLAST. These homologous sequences were found to be 100% similar, with a very low probability that the alignment was due to chance alone (S=5888, E=0). This indicates that mice can be an excellent model organism in which to study COL1A1 defects.
